I'm Lisa, the founder and lead photographer of Bella Rose Photography. I am so happy you've stopped by to learn a little more about me, and I am excited to share my story with you.
If you'll bear with me, I'll start at the very beginning. At the age of three, while scribbling some drawings on a restaurant napkin one night while waiting for our dinner to arrive, my grandmother proclaimed, "This child is an artist!" Not long after that I began drawing and painting, pouring over art history books, and visiting art museums. I was completely within my element and discovered a world in which a visual person like me fit in perfectly. I earned a BFA degree in Illustration with an emphasis in photography and oil painting, and promptly set out to be a children's book illustrator.
Sometime after that, while painting commissioned oil portraits, I developed the habit of taking photos of my subjects then painting from the photos. I had a lot of requests for 'just the photos' because people liked them so much, plus they were a lot less time consuming to produce than a realistic oil painting. As a result, I began studying and perfecting photography. I went to work for another photographer to learn the wedding business, then opened my own business a few of years later.
Fifteen years later, I am still as in love with this art form as the day I began. The compliment I value most is when one of my brides says she feels completely at ease knowing I was her photographer because she could tell that working to create amazing imagery was just as important to me as it was to her. They're right, of course. I care so much because I have been the bride, the daughter, the sister of the bride, and I want each of my brides to have the very best possible experience on one of the most important days of her life.
The best part of my job is being able to combine artistry with the essence of each unique personality to create something new and unexpected. I hope to be a calming influence on hectic wedding days, and step back to capture the excitement as it unfolds, but I can also take the lead when things need to happen. I want everyone to feel comfortable and confident while taking photos, so I will let you 'be you' then make subtle adjustments to ensure the final product is you at your most beautiful.
Being a wedding photographer is so much more than just taking photos. It is a chance to be a professional counselor, friend, big sister, and trusted advisor on 'all things wedding'. I cant tell you how many times I've tied the bow on the flower girl's dress, fixed veils, pinned corsages, calmed nerves, helped figure out how to cut the cake, kept things on schedule, and generally made sure everyone had a great time. Overall, it's a pretty awesome job and I count my blessings every day that it's my profession.
I would describe my style as elegant and classic with a romantic vintage influence; always keeping in mind that I want my images to stand the test of time without feeling trendy or cliche.
I am located in the lovely coastal city of Wilmington, NC and while I love this cute town, I do enjoy the opportunity to travel for projects and weddings. My luggage and passport are always ready to hit the road!
